Pete's Tavern
Festive Dining · Gramercy · Pete's Tavern, 129 E 18th St, at Irving Place
New York's oldest continuously operating bar and restaurant, pouring since 1864, with its tin ceiling, dark wood and a full coat of Christmas garland in December. O. Hours: Daily from 12pm to 2am.
Cost: Moderate; a burger and a house ale will not break the trip
Subway: 6 to 23rd St; L to Third Ave; 4, 5, 6 to Union Sq

Origami Holiday Tree at AMNH
Family · Upper West Side · American Museum of Natural History, 200 Central Park West, at 79th St
A thirteen foot tree in the museum's grand gallery, covered with hundreds of handmade origami animals folded through the year by volunteers.
