Privacy policy

Summit and Spur is a travel publication of Oasis Investing LLC. This page says, in plain language, what information this site collects when you visit, subscribe, buy a planner, or sign up for trip alerts, what we do with it, and how to get it stopped or removed. If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@summitandspur.com and a person will answer.

The short version: we collect the minimum this kind of site runs on. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share phone numbers with third parties for marketing. The services that help us run the site, send email, take payment, and send text alerts handle your information only to do that work.

What we collect

What this site collects, and why

Visit and analytics data. When you visit a page, our analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) record general information about the visit, such as which pages were viewed, roughly where in the world the visit came from, the type of device and browser used, and the site or search that sent you here. We use this in aggregate to see which pages help readers and which do not. It is not used to identify you personally.
Email address, if you subscribe. If you sign up for an email list on this site, the form is run by Kit, our email provider. Kit collects your email address and records subscription details such as when you signed up and which form you used. We use that address only to send the emails you signed up for, such as the weekly Park Updates email or a note when a new planner ships. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops the mail.
Order information, if you buy something. Checkout is handled by Stripe on this site, and by Gumroad for products sold through our Gumroad shop. When you buy a planner, the checkout provider collects your name, email address, and payment details in order to process the payment and deliver your purchase. We receive enough of the order record to confirm payment, deliver the product, and handle support or refunds. We do not see or store your full card number; the checkout provider handles payment information under its own privacy policy.
Phone number, if you sign up for text alerts. The SMS trip alerts described below are optional. If you choose to join them, we collect the mobile number you enter, and we use it only to send those alerts. See the text messaging section for the full terms.
What you send us directly. If you email us a question, we keep that message and your address so we can answer it and sort out any order or correction it refers to.

Cookies

This site and the services it uses may place cookies, small text files stored by your browser, and use similar technologies. Cookies on this site are used to keep the site working, to measure visits in aggregate through our analytics, and, on pages that carry them, to record that a reader clicked an affiliate link so the partner can credit the referral (see the next section). We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles of you, and we do not run third party advertising trackers of our own.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site will still work; some measurement and affiliate crediting simply will not happen for that visit.

Affiliate links

Affiliate links and how we are paid

Some pages on this site contain affiliate links to other companies, for example for lodging, activities, gear, or travel services. If you click one of those links and then buy or book something, we may earn a commission from that company. The price you pay is not raised because of it.

Our own planners are always our first recommendation on our own pages, and that is stated where it happens. Affiliate links are placed where the linked service is a logical next step for the reader, not as paid placements disguised as advice. Where a page carries affiliate links, this disclosure applies to that page, and the partners involved run their own sites and checkout under their own privacy policies once you leave this site.

Text messaging

SMS trip alerts

Summit and Spur offers optional text message trip alerts (the "SMS Trip Alerts" program), run by Oasis Investing LLC. These alerts carry time sensitive travel information of the kind this site publishes, such as park road and reservation changes, booking window reminders, and deadlines tied to a trip you are planning.

How you opt in. You opt in by entering your mobile phone number in the SMS Trip Alerts signup form on this site and submitting it. Joining is voluntary and is separate from subscribing to any email list or buying any product.
What you will receive. Trip alert text messages about the parks, routes, or trips covered by the alerts you signed up for. Message frequency varies, depending on the season, the trip dates you are tracking, and how often conditions actually change.
Cost. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan. Summit and Spur does not charge a separate fee for the alerts themselves.
How to opt out. Reply STOP to any message to opt out and stop receiving text alerts. You will receive one final message confirming that you have been unsubscribed, and no further alerts after that unless you sign up again.

Your number stays yours. Phone numbers collected for SMS Trip Alerts are never sold or shared with third parties for marketing. We do not rent, sell, or disclose your mobile number, or information about your opt in, to any third party for their own marketing purposes. Your number is passed only to the messaging provider that sends the alerts on our behalf (Twilio) and to mobile carriers as needed to deliver the messages.
Consent is not a condition of purchase. Agreeing to receive text alerts is not required to buy any planner or any other product or service from us, and declining the alerts changes nothing about any purchase.
Carrier note. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on your carrier and coverage, and alert timing cannot be guaranteed.

Sharing

Who else handles your information

We share information only with the service providers that operate the parts of this site you use, and only so they can do that work:

Kit runs our email forms and sends our email.
Stripe processes checkout payments on this site and helps deliver purchased products.
Gumroad processes checkout and delivery for products sold through our Gumroad shop.
Cloudflare hosts this site and provides the visit analytics described above.
Twilio sends SMS Trip Alerts text messages on our behalf, for readers who opt in.

Beyond those providers, we disclose information only if the law requires it, to protect our rights or readers, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business, in which case this policy or a successor policy would govern the transferred information. We do not sell personal information to anyone.

Your choices

Keeping, correcting, and removing your information

We keep subscription, order, and alert records for as long as they are needed to run the list, the shelf, or the alert program, to meet tax and accounting obligations, and to resolve disputes. If you would like to know what personal information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, email hello@summitandspur.com and we will handle the request. You can also stop any channel on your own at any time: unsubscribe links in every email, STOP by text for alerts, and cookie controls in your browser.

This site is written for adults planning travel and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes and contact

Changes to this policy, and how to reach us

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update this page and move the date at the top. Changes take effect when the updated page is posted. The SMS terms above will not be changed to permit selling or marketing sharing of phone numbers.
